Tanorexia: Are You Addicted to Tanning?
posted in Sun Care |

Today I came across a new term: Tanorexia. Basically it describes an addiction to tanning. If you’ve seen some Guidos you’ll know what I mean.
Tanning can be dangerous to our skin, yet many people obsessively do it. Why? Well, researchers have found that tanning can be addictive because it frees endorphins. The endorphins are chemicals our body releases that produce an euphoric feeling in our bodies, they are also responsible for reducing pain.

The study was very interesting and some subjects that experienced UV blocking even developed symptoms similar of narcotics withdrawal.
What is the Risk of Excessively Tanning our Bodies?
In case you don’t know, tanning is actually cell damage. That’s why our skin gets darker, it darkens to protect itself. Constant repetition just makes cancer easier to appear.
Many people think using tan beds is less risky when in fact it isn’t, in fact some doctors think is even worse because they use UVA rays that has been linked to melanoma.
Besides all that, let’s be real. Excessive tanning looks bad! I’ve seen people with Tanorexia that are just plain ridiculous
