Today I was doing my daily surfing when I found out this new total amazing method of shaving – and probably burning yourself in the process: fire shaving. The method comes from a 19 year old guy who in his own words has “just hit puberty”.

Just so you know he states in his tutorial at Instructables.com:

“I have no problem with shaving like a normal person, there are many things I do like a normal person. It is just sometimes I want a quick way to eradicate all the little hairs on my face without all the ceremonious procedures of a regular shaving.”

Honestly I can’t even see the small hairs he’s talking about. However this should work if you are willing to go through the risk. How do I know that? Well it is a long story that involved my hairy arm and some fire, so I got a hair removal session for free.

Finally, someone puts a right to point explanation of how long a beard should be! This solves a question I personally was looking to find somewhere back when I used to sport a nice beard.

Esquire Magazine offers not only an explanation but also a simple illustration to make the point clear. In this short article, author Peter Martin help us solve the mystery of the proper beard, something only heard in myths and ancient tales.

At the same time the article raises some questions, like for example: What happens if your face is like Phil Margera’s face? Would you need to find your neck first? Or what if your neck is too long – or too short? Does this work like the golden proportion used by artists and designers? Or What if your chest hair meets with your beard at some point?

A few.. err… months ago, I received this six pack of Hommage products. And they seem to be lost when I moved, but guess what… I found them!!!

To be honest, I really didn’t know how to proceed with all these products, so I went to Hommage’s page to learn a bit more about these shaving aids. And well, I’m still a little bit confused. From my conclusions I see that first I need to start with the Preshave Oil: Prime, then choose between the Shave Oil, the Shave Cream and the Shave Gel to finally Protect and Fortify my skin. I hope I am right… So today I will start testing the Preshave Oil/Shave Gel/Fortify combination and will be back with the results!

Over the life of this blog, we have reviewed quite a few shaving creams.  However we never found a tutorial or explanation on how to properly assess the product we got for review.  Sure, there are a lot of specs and marketing claims, but in the end, when all has been said, it comes down to hands-on experience.  Here we leave you with a simple way for you to make your own tests and find out which shaving cream works particularly well for you.

The first step is to read about the product.  In the box you’ll read all the benefits the shaving cream is supposed to bring.  Read about them as these points will be the “extras” you’ll be evaluating in the end.

Next, test all the products with the same variables.  Here at Men’s Skin Care Tips, we always use a new razor, we shave immediately after taking a hot shower and we use warm water to shave.  We follow the right shaving technique or else problems like cutting may arise and they won’t be related to the cream at all.

Okay, now comes the time when you must stay observant and judge while you shave.  To start, check out the thickness of the cream – is it too liquid? Is it too thick?  Maybe you prefer one over the other and that’s totally fine.  There are shaving creams all with different thicknesses.  Start observing how much time you need to massage the skin to let the cream do its work.  This isn’t easy at first so get used to it.

Next, evaluate how the shaving creams works along the razor.  Does it help easy gliding, does it clogs the razor excessively?  Both the cream and the razor need to work together like in a dance, if they are not synchronized, problems may arise.

Finally, check the state of your skin after shaving.  Is it too dry?  Too damaged?  There are great shaving creams that include ingredients to minimize skin damage.  Also remember the benefits you read about.  Are they present?  Are they just fluff?
