Anthony Sport Astringent Review

as_astringent.jpgWhen I saw this product I thought to myself, What is an Astringent?

I have really never reviewed an “astringent” before so I decided to do a bit of research. Wikapedia says:

“Externally applied astringents, which cause mild coagulation of skin proteins, dry, harden, and protect the skin. Acne sufferers are often advised to use astringents if they have oily skin. [1] Astringents also help heal stretch marks and other scars. Mild astringent solutions are used in the relief of such minor skin irritations as those resulting from superficial cuts…”

In the skin care world, astringents are used to firm and tone the skin, constricting the pores and creating a protective layer of firm tissue between the under layers of skin and the elements. A skin care astringent is sometimes called a toner, and it is usually applied after bathing but before the application of moisturizers. Aftershaves are also astringents. Using an astringent after shaving can help to reduce the pain of minor cuts while also soothing the skin.

Applying excessive astringents, especially harsh ones such as alcohol, can be drying. This is why many cosmetic astringents are followed by moisturizer, to keep the skin moist as well as firm.

Ok so now onto the Anthony Sport Astringent review.

When I first saw the bottle I thought the blue color was very cool. The bottle is big as well and it lasts for a long time. I didn’t know how to apply the product and I hate that there where no instructions on the bottle, only some (I think) Germen words. Then I figured I needed some cotton balls/pads to dab it on my skin.

I later found out you put this on right before your moisturizer. The fresh, smell is great. I definatly felt refreshed and a slight tightning on my skin which made me feel more “awake”. If you have oily skin this product is great, it controls shine a lot. Just make sure you don’t put to much on though, it will over dry your skin. Just a couple of light dabs on your face and your set.

The soothing feeling after a shave was great as well. I didn’t experience any discomfort at all with this product. At just $12 on Maintenance for Men, the large bottle is worth the price and it last for a long time. I only wish it came with some cotton pads.

And that is my review on the Anthony Sport Astringent.
